Want to Sell More Food and Beverages

I am always on the look out for stuff for our food concessionaires. So here are a few tips to help you sell more food and beverages. 1) Give your patrons food and beverage items they cannot find elsewhere 2) Hot-Cooked items will make more then pre-packaged items 3) Want to make more cash? make sure you are located near where a line for something is at the event 4) Create attractive displays of food for people to look at. 5) Cooking food in the open where guests can see and smell it - will work wonders for you. 6) Keep your food and beverage within the theme of your attraction. Like, a rodeo could have say - cowboy juice 7) You should of course have cotton candy and beverages because the mark up on these items is great. 8) Use a simple themed menu - too many choices is too confusing. 9) You could offer a discount for the staff who are running your event, or for that matter what about fellow vendors? 10) Make a deal with the event for those purchasing vip tickets. That will help the event and you!. If you can add to this list, please do and leave a comment below.

Things you want to know about Horses

I was cleaning up my computer and ran across this pdf file - It talks about Paint Horses, Saddle-Bred Horses, Arabian Horses, the basics of Horse Care, Buying Your First Horse, Developing the Bond between Man and Horse, Draft Drought Horses, The Clydesdale - its twelve pages long. Unlocking the Secrets: Things You Want to Know About Horses.pdf I have a vague recollection of where it came from and actually considered deleting it, but there is some good information in here that might be of interest to the beginning horse person. Let me know what you think. Horses.pdf

BBQ for Vegetarians

If you have been to any good health food store lately and really looked around you would realize that there are all kinds of veggie foods being offere. I am a fairly new vegan, so I definitely have been looking. First if you are having a BBQ - don't omit your vegan friends. The health food store has all kinds of vegan burgers, some gluten free. These would BBQ great with some BBQ sauce on the grill. There are all kinds of cheeses in the health food store. I try to avoid dairy. In the health food store you can get vegan cheeses made from rice and one of my favorite is one mozzarella cheese made from almonds. There are all kinds of cheddars. Veggies can be grilled and taste great. Try corn on the cob, wrap it in foil and then remove the foil for the last few minutes to add bbq grilled flavor. Sweet potatoes also taste great grilled. Here are some great recipe links for Vegetarians Balsamic Green Beans and Peppers Packet-Roasted - this recipe does have feta cheese California Grilled Veggie the following does have yogurt  Veggie Burger This recipe is both vegetarian and vegan. Concessions, and how Not to get booked.

Being a concessionaire is a tough business. There is a lot of competition. Getting booked is hard work and there are always a lot of new concessions coming along. If you do NOT want to get booked follow these rules 1) send an email with just a link in it to a website or YouTube channel - with no verbiage in the email. It sorta looks like spam and more than likely whoever it is that you are sending it to will not open it. 2) have an icky-looking old-fashioned funky website. Having a website like this - that looks like a magazine old-fashioned ad certainly will help you not get booked. 3) sending a video that has a cute dog or kids or showing you handshaking a crowd is certainly not relevant to what you do. These days having a very unprofessional video is a sure way not to get you booked. 4) don't send pictures of your product. You don't want to get booked so why send pictures 5) send a lot of junky emails - why send one professional well-written email with a video or proper pictures, when you can send lots of short choppy incomplete emails and bombard the person who is doing the booking right? 6) send the fair or event a picture of a hamburger. They probably have never seen one and maybe they will be thrilled by the photo, right? Okay, enough of the nonsense - realistically - send one professional email. The more professional the better. An appropriate video showing your booth and set up and you at the event with crowds would be appropriate, pictures of the same would be good, and a menu and a picture of the inside of your booth would be nice. You might also mention briefly some of the events you have done. And, if it should be the first event you are applying for? All of the above apply, just because it might be your first event - does not mean you do not have a chance of getting booked if your email is professional. It's like applying for a job after all. Ohio State Fair wins International Award

The Ohio State Fair was recently presented with a first-place Agricultural Award of Excellence from the International Association of Fairs and Expositions (IAFE) for the fair's new "Agriculture is Cool" interactive education program held in conjunction with the Ohio Department of Agriculture, Ohio Farm Bureau, and Ohio's agricultural commodity groups. The 2011 "Agriculture is Cool" program inspired by the initiative of Governor John R. Kasich included several interactive education stations throughout the Ohio State Fair at which students could learn about the many ways Ohio's largest industry – agriculture – impacts many facets of their everyday lives. The program, which also offered scholarships to top participants, was recognized as the best special or specific agricultural education exhibit, event, or program for the fairgoing public for fairs with annual attendance between 500,001 and 1 million. The award was presented during a special awards ceremony held on November 29 during the 121st Annual IAFE Convention. In addition, the Ohio State Fair received eight different awards in the marketing division. Ohio State Fair Virgil Strickler explained, "It has long been a favorite family tradition and an active participant in the international community of fairs and expositions. I'm thrilled that a panel of industry leaders recognized our great state for excellence from a pool of more than 3,000 members from around the world. The "Agriculture is Cool" program will be open to visitors of all ages during the 2012 Ohio State Fair, July 25 - Aug. 5. For the second consecutive year, exiting fourth-grade students (2011-2012 academic year) and a chaperone will be admitted for free upon presentation of a valid report card at the entrance gates. The Ohio Expo Center is a year-round, multi-purpose convention and meeting facility. More than 150 events are held at the Ohio Expo Center annually, including the Ohio State Fair. The 2012 Ohio State Fair will be held July 25 - August 5

The Ultimate Guide to Face Painting Fun: Unleash Your Inner Artist

One of my Face Painting boards Some of the best times I remember from being a commercial vendor for many years have been while face painting. Kids love face painters. Maybe it has to do with the face you are drawing and marking on them and at home that of course is forbidden. Most parents enjoy this also. In the past, I have face-painted bald men with beards, boyfriends, toes, and bellies. I remember distinctly on one occasion face painting a whole family - it was the seven-year-old's birthday and she wanted everyone to have a face paint. At the first event I remember doing there was another face painter. It was my first time and I was a little nervous. Things went fine until toward the end of the event when some of the parents came yelling at me. There was another face painter there who was using permanent magic markers. They were very upset that the drawings would not come off. Me? I was just using acrylic paint at that time. Unlock Your Inner Artist: Dive into the World of Face Painting! Now when I face paint I use FDA-approved face paint. You can buy this at Michael's or a Hobby Store and sometimes WalMart. It's nice stuff, like cosmetic makeup. The girls also like glitter on their face paintings. It also nice if someone had a camera to take a picture of the finished face painting Some of my favorite face paintings were Batman (if I had a dollar for every Batman I painted now - I would be rich), hearts with rainbows, unicorns, watermelon, Santa, Rudolph, pumpkins, spiders, snakes, Betty Boop, Sponge Bob, apples with a worm, Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Ariel, and Scooby Doo. Remember you can paint other places than on the face, I have painted on legs, toes ankles, bellies, bald heads, fingers... shoulders - anywhere that is visible.
