I’m in love with Watermelon

Is watermelon good for you? - you bet It is rich in lycopene, and B vitamins, magnesium, potassium, vitamin C, and vitamin A.  It is a fruit for every occasion and very popular in this country. We all know kids consume too much sugar. How about freezing watermelon slices and different types of berries in popsicle trays instead of the sugar "other stuff"? I bet the kids would not even notice the difference.   Some of the other things to be made with watermelon include pie, cupcakes, coconut cake, watermelon salsa, BBQ sauces, kabobs, drinks and smoothies, and sorbet. Love with Watermelon Creations for Kids and Adults! One of my fondest memories is summer at my uncle's house and the ice-cold fresh love with watermelon he would always serve. The watermelon and his bonfires made my Uncle Vic extremely popular among us kids. Hey adults, You can also take a watermelon and bore a hole in it and put in hard liquor - let's get ice cold - what adult would not love that on a hot summer's day? What else can you do with watermelon?  Well - believe it or not you can grill it. One recipe I am dying to try is Grilled Spicy Watermelon. Look for it on Watermelon.org - along with a whole bunch of other unusual recipes to try.   If you want to see some truly amazing carved watermelons try this link on http://www.watermelon.org

Mutton Bustin’

a wild ride, Mutton Bustin Mutton Bustin' is an event held at rodeos similar to bull riding or bronc riding. It is the kid's version of bull riding. Open to girls and boys, youngsters attempt to ride the unpredictable sheep for six seconds. During the event, a sheep will be caught and held still while a child is placed on top in a riding position. Once the child is seated atop the sheep, the people holding the sheep let go and the sheep then starts to run in an attempt to get the child off. It is an exciting event for the boys and girls who want to experience the excitement of what riding in a rodeo could be like. Children are on occasion injured by the sheep. Height and weight restrictions on participants generally prevent injuries to the sheep. Parents are often asked to sign waivers to protect the rodeo from legal action. The safety of the children and the sheep is of course important. Proper gear helps and consists of a protective vest and a helmet. There is also an age restriction usually children age 4 to 9. There is also a weight restriction; children can weigh no more than of 55 lbs. Weight restrictions protect the sheep. Mutton Bustin' has grown to be one of the most popular and entertaining extra attractions at the National Western Stock Show in Denver during January.Like the cowboy bucking events, time and score count, but all the contestants receive trophies from the sponsor Children get confidence from doing this event. Sometimes a cowboy or a rodeo clown helps to show them how. The little cowboy or cowgirl learns the proper way to mount the sheep, and hold on for the six seconds or so the ride lasts. The child who holds on for that long without falling off and has a good ride is the winner. Mamas if you don't want your babies to grow up to be Cowboys, you best keep them away from Mutton Bustin'. Sure, it looks innocent enough, but does anybody know how many Cowboys got THEIR first real taste of rodeo riding from a sheep? . I

Here we go again

know I have brought this up before. But, I just read another article put out by PRWeb about Sugar Rush Overload consumption in children. The book is by – Dr. Scott Olson ND, the author of a new book, Cigarettes, He says the amount of sugar in children’s diets is amazing and that most of it is coming in from soda and fruit juice. Sugar Rush Overload Consumption We we all know that going to the county fair is a source of large amounts of sugar. Sugar he states is enticing. That is the problem it seems to me. We are all in need of a fix. Sugar is a fix. It is instantaneously gratifying. You know I have seen them, the fat kids at the county fair They sometimes are too fat to get into our inflatables… they simply weigh to much. Obesity is a serious problem from Sugar Rush Overload. No one wants to exercise, no one wants to give up soda ( ah, or the sponsorship of the event by the soda companies). Maybe, just maybe we should find new and creative ways to help our kids other then to feed them stuff that is not good for them The only way the county fair and the schools for that matter will change is when we as responsible parties insist they do. Perhaps we should ask the fat kids if they really really like being fat.
